πΉ What are Prepositions of Place?
Prepositions of place tell us the position of something.
π They answer: βWhere is it?β
π΅ 1. IN = Inside a space (something has boundaries)
π Use βinβ when something is inside an area, room, container, or place with limits (walls, borders, edges)
π§ Think like this:
If something is surrounded from all sides β use IN
β Examples:
- The keys are in my bag (inside the bag)
- She is in the room (inside walls)
- They live in Pakistan (inside a country)
π΄ 2. ON = On a surface (touching from above)
π Use βonβ when something is touching a surface
π§ Think like this:
If something is on top and touching β use ON
β Examples:
- The book is on the table
- The phone is on the desk
- The picture is on the wall
π Even vertical surfaces (wall) use ON
π’ 3. AT = Exact point or location (no area focus)
π Use βatβ when you talk about a specific point/place, not inside or on
π§ Think like this:
If you are talking about a location as a point β use AT
β Examples:
- She is at the door
- He is at the bus stop
- I am at home
π You donβt focus on inside/outside, just the location
π― Deep Comparison (Very Important)
πΈ Example: βschoolβ
- I am at school β location (general place)
- I am in the school β inside the building
πΈ Example: βtableβ
- The book is on the table β surface
- The keys are in the table drawer β inside
π§ Golden Rule (Easy Memory Trick)
π IN = inside (box, room, country)
π ON = surface (table, wall, floor)
π AT = point (location, address, place
